The College consists of five distinct buildings spanning the life of the College from 1937 to the present day. Our facilities are excellent including our Digital Arts suite, drama studio and trampolining hall. We have specialist resources for the Arts, design and technology, computing, science and PE, as well as extensive classroom accommodation and a learning resources centre. All classrooms have access to the internet. An indoor tennis centre opened in January 2007 and is a superb resource for both students and for the local community.
At Sir Jonathan North we believe it is vital to foster students’ holistic development alongside academic excellence. The holistic development is underpinned by our values, the 4 Rs and we will be utilising these throughout all aspects of college life. The 4 Rs are: Resilience - The ability to bounce back when facing challenges, Respect - Learning to value self, others and the environment, Reflectiveness - Understanding what needs to be done to make the next steps and planning how to do this, Resourcefulness - Having the confidence to search out answers in new ways and ask for guidance when necessary.
We achieve highly and examination results have been consistently good for many years. We aim to improve these results, with the awareness that students need support and guidance in managing the pressures of competition and challenge. We encourage students to be ambitious in their personal and academic goals. We work closely with parents to support our students and as a staff, we reward effort and achievement by creating a climate in and out of the classroom where individual initiative is recognised and team spirit is valued.
We set high expectations for both staff and students and work closely with parents. We believe that it is the duty of the College to educate our students to become responsible members of society and to respect others. Our experience is that students achieve high standards because they are set challenging targets, provided with interesting opportunities to learn in different ways and given support where they need it.
The College is proud of its unique and distinctive ethos as one of only two girls’ state secondary schools in Leicestershire and as a World Class school. We regard our student body as a major strength and take great pride in both the success and diversity of our student intake. We give students a voice in the College and we listen. We value courtesy, politeness, honesty and effort. We accept that we all make mistakes from time to time and we aim to learn from our mistakes. We are inspired by excellence in all forms including academic, creative, practical, physical and personal achievements.

Here’s an example of a typical Year 7 timetable. We have a 2 week timetable at Sir Jonathan North – Week A and Week B. Each day will be split into 5 lessons, with a morning break and lunchtime.
Please note, your timetable could be subject to change depending on regulations regarding COVID-19 in September.
At Sir Jonathan North we believe a smart, business-like uniform helps create a sense of unity and pride in the school. A coloured lanyard is also part of the uniform, with each year group having their own colour.
Our uniform consists of a black blazer and / or jumper with the school logo on it; a white shirt or blouse with a collar; a black pleated knee length skirt, a black modesty skirt or business style black trousers. If you wear a headscarf, it should be plain black or white.
Uniform is ordered through Schoolwear Solutions and you can find more information on our uniform here.
We are committed to helping you fulfil your potential. Our Skills for Learning Team work hard to assess students’ needs and identify any additional support which may be required. More information can be found here.
At Sir Jonathan North College we welcome students from all over the world and currently have over 54 languages spoken. We recognise and celebrate the richness brought by this diversity. We work hard to eliminate all barriers to learning and this includes ensuring that students for whom English is not their first language are given the same opportunities to succeed and participate.
