Magical Winter Showcase
Recently, we were thrilled to host our annual Winter Arts Showcase, celebrating the talents of 48 students at Sir Jonathan North Girls’ College. In front of an audience of 120, students – from Year 7 through to Year 11 – took to the stage, some individually and others as part of a group, each performing a song of their choosing. From Oasis to Miley Cyrus, Metallica to Michael Jackson, and a few festive classics for good measure, the hall was certainly alive with the sound of music!
Among the performers were six bands, two orchestral ensembles, the cast of the upcoming We Will Rock You whole-school production, three solo pianists, a solo guitarist, a solo drummer, five solo vocalists, two vocal duets and a mixed instrumental and vocal trio. Students had been rehearsing their performances since October, and the dedication and hard work behind each act were evident throughout the evening.
An additional highlight of the evening was a competition featuring six school bands – Anonymous Underground, The New Bluebirds, Ultra Violet, Rosemary, Absent Aether, and The Scorpios – who competed against each other to represent the school at the Trust-wide ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition, taking place on Thursday 30th January 2025, at The Cedars Academy.
After six mesmerising performances, audience members were tasked with selecting their favourite and – once all the votes were counted – Ultra Violet and The Scorpios were chosen as the school’s representatives.
The event was a true celebration of creativity, teamwork and dedication. It not only highlighted the incredible talent of our students but also brought the school community together to enjoy an evening of entertainment.
