Students shine at Primary Tennis Festival
At the end of March, a group of our Year 9 students enthusiastically supported a Primary Tennis Festival in association with Active Together. The event welcomed 208 pupils from 19 local schools and aimed to raise the profile of sport and PE in primary schools. The students – all part of the Sir Jonathan North Leadership Academy – designed eight tennis-themed activities for the pupils, each focusing on specific sporting skills. Throughout the activities, pupils improved their throwing, catching, coordination and racket skills before engaging in tennis matches to apply what they had learnt.
Our students led the coaching and officiating throughout the day; they also collaborated with Primary School Leaders, teaching them how to lead and providing them with the tools to host similar sessions in their own schools.
This event – one of many that we host throughout the school year – emphasises the strong links that we have with our local community. The smiles and enthusiasm from the young participants were a testament to the success of the event.
Our Year 9 students not only honed their leadership and organisational skills but also made a positive impact on the younger pupils, promoting a love for tennis and physical activity and allowing us to nurture the next generation of leaders and athletes.
We look forward to hosting many more successful collaborative events in the future!
